Prototype 2.0!
Welcome to the 2nd Prototype!
We listened to your feedback on the last playtesting round, and we have implemented a few new changes to reflect that feedback.
Here are a few of the most important changes:
- A toggle is now available to change mouse control modes.
- A HUD display has been made to warn you of pursuers. You can also lock onto an enemy now.
- The map size has been doubled!
- Moving away from the box-world and into 3D Models.
Mouse Control
We have introduced a toggle for those of you who wish to try a different mode of controlling the pitch/yaw of your spaceship. You can press L to lock the cursor and fire straight in front. You can also press C to make the cursor return to the center and have the ship only turn when your mouse is moving. You can also press +/- to increase or decrease the camera follow distance.
HUD
Many players felt they had no indication of what killed them, leading their deaths to feel unfair or random. While we are still always looking for the best way to balance the game, we have introduced a HUD system. This includes a red border that appears when an enemy has you in their sights, and a counter of how many enemies are currently in pursuit of you. You can also get an indicator of where the enemies are behind you by looking at the arrows on your screen. On the note of the arrows, you can now lock onto an enemy to follow them. This will become even more important in future updates as we introduce health and shield systems. To lock onto an enemy, press Q. If they leave your view, an arrow will point you toward their direction, and a box will highlight them when they are on screen.
Map Size
In our previous update, the enemy’s wandering AI was based on a painstakingly created system of nodes, making scalability an issue. We have since removed the node system to make the enemy’s options much more open. This has allowed us to scale the map to whatever size is needed! Consequently we doubled the map size, but it may increase in size in later updates.
3D Models
We have gotten rid of the pills and replaced them with actual starships! We also gave the player 4 more weapon points for 5x the firepower. When you shoot, you fire 5 bullets instead of one! The enemies also have received a spaceship design. Even the asteroids got a face lift. Now they look better than ever, and we have made them more than just stationary spheres.
We want to thank everyone involved in the first playtest, and we are excited to receive more feedback as we try to make this the best game possible!
