Full Release!

Welcome to the Launch of The Savage Firmament

We thank everyone who helped with playtesting. We are excited to release this game to the public.

Here are a few more features that we added since the last update:

  • A working menu with settings, difficulty options, and a Restart button.
  • A health and shields system for the player.
  • A scoring system to keep track of your kills.
  • Respawning enemies so the fun never stops.
  • Another type of enemy that spawns.
  • A small amount of collision avoidance for enemies.

Menu

We have finally added a pause menu. The menu includes a Start Game button (of course, although you can always just press Esc if you wish), a Settings Menu which currently has an option to change the pitch/yaw strength relative to your cursor, a Difficulty Menu to change the difficulty (this will affect the number of enemies and their firing rate), and a Restart Game Button. Another added bonus to the menu at the start is that it will help you gain your bearings at the beginning.

Health and Shields

You will now notice two bars in the bottom left corner for your shields and health. Now you don’t have to worry about getting killed in one hit. We increased the numbers of enemies to balance with your new fortitude. The shields will recharge after a short time, but your health will not, meaning sometimes it will be better to flee and find a better angle of attack. The enemies also have this system, but currently they are still set to only be able to take a single hit before dying.

Scoring and Respawning Enemies

Now you can actually see how well you are doing in your fight. Every time you destroy another enemy, your score will increase. Watch out though, because when one enemy dies, another will spawn to take its place. Don’t worry, they won’t spawn right next to you, unless you are playing dangerously and fighting outside the boundaries. Respawning enemies means now you can shoot for your own high score!

New Enemies, Less Annoying Enemies

We added another type of enemy, differentiated with a blue glow instead of a red one. These enemies are slower, but they shoot much faster than the red ones. Another issue that many of you experienced was having the enemies stick to you like velcro, making it almost impossible to maneuver away from them before dying. While we haven’t yet been able to stop the enemies from EVER running into you, we have made it so they will maneuver away, giving you more wiggle room, and stopping many more enemies from sticking to you in the first place.

We have had such an amazing time designing this game, and we are so excited to present it to you. Have fun out there!
